Filled with Joy

I was raised in a Christian home and participated in Christian church camps and youth groups. Also, my mom began to read the Bible to me when I was small and helped me to pray. Therefore, I was familiar with some Bible stories and understood that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save sinners. Although I believed in God and that Jesus died for my sins, I was lacking a personal relationship with the Lord.

I moved from my hometown in Arkansas to Austin directly after high school in order to have a fresh start. My second semester I began to have many questions about human life, so I picked up the Bible and started reading the Old Testament. At the same time, I became friends with another Christian in my class. He soon began to share with me some of his experiences of the Lord Jesus. This attracted me and gave me a desire to know the Lord more.

The next fall this brother brought me to a Christians on Campus welcome meeting. I was astonished to see how much the people there loved the Lord and His Word. I never saw a group of people so full of joy. Even the singing was wonderful. I was filled with joy like never before. But, what impressed me the most was to see other students my age pursuing Christ and not the things of this world. One other thing that I noticed was that Christ was the center of the welcome meeting. This attracted me because most of the places I attended growing up were centered on other things.

My participation with Christians on Campus as a student has greatly enhanced my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my knowledge of the Bible. The small meetings on campus in between my classes have especially been a rich supply to my Christian life. For instance, this past semester a brother and I prayed together once a week. Afterwards, I always felt refreshed and strengthened. I thank the Lord that I found a group of people on campus to meet with and enjoy the Lord Jesus together.
